Most all-in-one platforms quietly bake an extra 0.4–0.9% on top of every card transaction. We don't. The Stripe rate you'd get directly from Stripe is the rate you pay through BusinessMade — whether you bring your own key or use our submerchant onboarding.
WHY PAYROLL IS FREE
We charge a flat $49/mo for the Business plan. Inside that, payroll is just one of the ten modules — there's no incremental "per employee · per pay run · per filing" stack. We add filings to states we don't yet support every quarter; if yours isn't covered, ask.

Is the free plan really free?+
Yes. All 10 modules, one location, up to five employees, unlimited invoices and customers, community support. No trial limit. Upgrade only when you outgrow it.
How is payroll free? Where's the catch?+
Payroll is one of the ten modules in the $49/mo Business plan — there's no per-employee or per-pay-run fee on top. We make our money on the flat plan. State-filing coverage expands quarterly; if yours isn't yet supported we'll tell you, not surprise-bill you.
Do you really not mark up Stripe?+
Correct. Whether you bring your own Stripe API key or use our submerchant onboarding, the rate you pay is what Stripe publishes — no platform fee from us. You can verify by comparing your Stripe payouts to our records.
What's "at-cost passthrough"?+
Same-day direct deposit and SMS go through partners (banks for ACH, Twilio for SMS). We charge you exactly what they charge us. SMS is roughly $0.008 per US text; same-day DD pricing depends on your bank.
Annual billing discount?+
Yes — 2 months free if you pay annually ($490/yr for Business). Enterprise is always negotiated annually.
What does Enterprise actually include beyond Business?+
Dedicated account manager, contractual SLA, custom integrations, SSO/SCIM, white-label, API access, and on-prem deployment options. If those words don't mean anything to you, you don't need Enterprise.
Can I downgrade?+
Any time. No clawback, no penalty. You'll lose access to paid-tier features but your data stays.
